Kyra Maxi Dress in Deep Sea is our first-ever tie-dye interpretation in our signature Kyra design. Each dress is hand-tie-dyed by skilled artisans in ocean-inspired hues, using the Badal technique, meaning "cloud" in Hindi, ensuring that no two dresses are the same. This elevated take on tie dye brings a sense of refined artistry, celebrating nuanced colour blending and fluid movement in every detail. A modern expression of bohemian elegance, Deep Sea is a timeless piece to treasure for seasons to come. True to the much-loved Kyra silhouette, the Deep Sea features romantic billowing sleeves, optional front-tie detailing, and hidden pockets.

Material

100% Cotton. Depending on each individual, some find the material sheer. A slip may be worn underneath if desired.

Garment Care

We recommend a gentle, cold water hand wash and hang drying in the shade. For the first few washes, avoid detergents to let the dye settle and prevent colour transfer. Handcrafted garments are delicate, however, designed to last when treated mindfully with love and care.

Handmade with love in India.

100% Cotton Voile

Soft and airy, very light weight with a gentle, flowing feel. Semi-sheer with a fine, soft hand feel.

BADAL TIE DYE

The Badal tie-dye technique begins with soft cotton fabric that is washed and kept damp to help the dye absorb evenly. Artisans then fold or scrunch the fabric by hand into gentle, cloud-like shapes, binding these sections with string or rubber bands to create resist points that the dye won’t fully reach. The bound fabric is submerged in a deep indigo dye bath for several hours, with timing and technique carefully controlled by skilled makers. When the fabric is unbound, it reveals soft, organic gradations of colour reminiscent of shifting clouds (Badal means 'cloud' in Hindi) — no two pieces are ever the same. Finally, the fabric is rinsed and shade-dried to protect delicate colour transitions. This slow, intuitive, and entirely hand-done process reflects a thoughtful, unhurried approach aligned with slow-fashion values.

Empowering women

At the heart of Daughters of India, we believe supporting women to feel empowered is a key component of a positive future.

We have pledged an ongoing monthly donation of $10,000 to support our charity partnerships Sewing the Seeds and Saheli Women.

Sewing the seeds

Sewing the Seeds is a women’s empowerment initiative that uses education and creativity in slow fashion to help break the cycle of poverty for Indian women. Their centre offers training in business, finance, and women’s health, fostering self-confidence in a supportive environment.

We have committed to a monthly donation of $5,000 to support their impactful work.

Saheli Women

We’re working with Saheli women to launch Saheli Kapas, a Cotton Project, to support and empower female farmers at the root of the supply chain. Saheli Women believe true fashion starts with the Earth and the women who nurture and farm it.

The pilot begins with five women and their farms, providing them with training, direct income, and ongoing support. By offering access to quality seeds and low-water sustainable practices, we aim to uplift communities while honouring Mother Earth.

We have committed to a monthly donation of $5,000 to support their impactful work.

Simply divine

"I am in love with this dress- the colour- the fabric and the length. Just love a maxi dress. Hoping in the future you may do more colours within the tie dye realm. It feels heavenly to wear."

Wonderful, but unfortunately too transparent

"Hello dear team,I'd like to share my review of the Kyra Maxi Dress Deep Sea. I think the dress is really beautiful. The only drawback, however, is that it's very see-through, so unfortunately, with my figure, I can't wear it outside. However, I have a suggestion for you:Since many women probably feel the same way I do, could you design a dress made of white double gauze with the same cut as Kyra, only without sleeves. The dress could be offered in both maxi and midi sizes and could thus serve either as a lining/underdress for Kyra, or as a standalone dress for those who prefer sleeveless dresses. I would be happy to volunteer to be a tester. What do you think of my suggestion?I would be very grateful for your feedback. Best,Sonja"

Blue Ocean dress that I love on my body

"This dress is beautiful to see and beautiful against my skin and fits me well. . I am delighted with the quick arrival of my order and the expertise in this creation. . thankyou x 💜"

Julie P. (5/5)

Kyra Maxi Deep Sea

"This dress is absolutely gorgeous but a little see through. I’m not sure if I am permitted to mention other labels in my review but I wanted to take the opportunity to suggest to any other purchasers who find some of the DOI dresses a little see through, Blue Bungalow make a slip that’s so light and affordable that I throughly recommend the addition. I say this as the owner of over a dozen dresses, some don’t need the extra lining but I feel much more comfortable in some of the more sheer dresses with the slip underneath. Just a thought, the slips come in maxi and midi length’s aswell."

Kim F. (5/5)

Beautiful dress

"Very happy with this beautifully crafted dress. Yes it's voluminous but it feels lovely to wear and it's flattering. Colour is true to the picture, as is the style. Very happy."
